Are There Services Like Uber Or Lyft In Kos?
Unlike many destinations worldwide, the island of Kos does not currently host ridesharing services such as Uber or Lyft.
This means that anyone arriving at the island’s harbours, airports and hotels will need to plan alternative ways to get around the scenic landscapes and historic sites that Kos has to offer.
But don’t stress- there are loads of great ways to get around and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.
If you love ridesharing apps, there is good news for you. There could be a chance that they could kit the Island of Kos soon as Islands like Corfu and Rhodes now have Uber!
How Do You Get Around Kos Without Uber?
There are a few different ways to get around Kos without using Uber. Whether you are short on time or have a small budget, there are plenty of ways to travel around.
Here are the best ways to get around the Island without using ridesharing services:
Renting A Car
Renting a car is always the best way to get around many of the Greek Islands.
You don’t have to rely on someone else, you can go exactly where you want and it usually works out so much cheaper.
It also saves you a lot of money on Airport transfers and taxis during your trip. This is one of the best ways to keep costs low if you are travelling as a group.
The roads are easy to navigate and if you ever get lost (like I have), locals will also happily help you.
I get asked a lot if having a car in Kos is worth it and I will always say yes!
Waiting for public transport is the bane of my life coming from South Wales so not having to wait for it is always a bonus for me. This is why hiring a car is epic if you want to explore the island on your terms!
🤩 For the best rates and great customer service, I highly recommend using Discover Cars.
They are my go-to car rental company because using them comes with so many benefits. One thing I love is that they check all car options from international companies and local ones too so you will get the best deals every time!
🏆AVANCE– is the Overall Best Option with fantastic reviews and a convenient airport pick-up location.
Bus
Another option for travelling around Kos is to use public transportation.
You will find no trains but Greek Buses are known for their cleanliness and efficiency.
This is a great option for those wanting to keep costs low or only want to do small journeys!
If you are planning to stay in Kos Town you will be in a great location for transport links across the Island so keep this in mind if you are deciding the best way to explore.
Many routes will take you all over the Island but just be aware that if you want to explore rural places, they may not take you directly to them.
Even though they may take you pretty close, you may end up having to walk or even call a taxi to get you to your final destination.
And if you are planning on using public transport to get from the airport, take lightweight luggage.
I have struggled with luggage on buses throughout Greece and trust me, it’s not fun when it’s hot! 🤦♀️
This is the cheapest way to get around the Island and is one of the most popular ways locals get around-especially if you cannot drive.
Taxi

Choosing a taxi to get around Kos proves to be one of the most convenient options!
While ridesharing may be absent, traditional taxis are readily available on the island. Visitors can easily spot taxi stands at key locations, including the airport and major tourist hubs.
You can also easily get your hotel or restaurant to ring and order you one.
Taxis are great for faster travel times and making hidden gems easily accessible with a personalized, door-to-door service.
With experienced local drivers, you not only benefit from their in-depth knowledge of the area but also recommendations for off-the-beaten-track locations.
🚕 Your taxi cost will depend on where you are going but for reference, a 35-minute journey usually costs about €40.

Public Transportation:
Buses operate on the island, connecting the airport to various towns and destinations. Public transportation is usually more budget-friendly but may be less convenient if you have a lot of luggage or if your accommodation is not easily accessible by bus.
