The simple answer to the question “Is Uber Available in Malta?” is YES, but it’s typically not my first choice.
While Uber does operate here, I’ve found it to be more of a backup option.
Malta has a well-established taxi system that’s safe, readily available, and regulated.
You’ll find taxi stands at airports and major city points, making it easy to catch a ride.
Then you have the buses which are efficient and affordable for getting around the island.
For longer distances or day trips, renting a car is my go-to!

There is currently Uber, but it isn’t usually the best way to get around.
You will find cheaper, more frequent and flexible ways to explore the Island.

Is There Uber In Malta Airport?
You can arrange for an Uber to pick you up from Malta Airport.
They typically will pick you up opposite Arrivals and Departures by the “Passenger Drop-Off” sign. It isn’t a long walk which I found great with a few suitcases!
Although it can be a bit tricky to coordinate an Uber before you arrive.
It can be hard to arrange an exact time as you have no idea how long it will take to get through passport control and baggage claim.
If you’re in a rush and want a seamless transfer, it might be worth considering a private transfer company.
They typically track your flight and ensure that a driver is waiting for you upon your arrival, saving you time and hassle!

Where Can I Get To With Uber In Malta?
Uber operates in several areas around the Island, primarily in and around major cities like Valletta, Sliema, St. Julian’s, and other popular tourist destinations.
You can use it for rides within these areas as well as for trips to and from Malta International Airport.
If you cannot see it in the area you want to go, I always see if Kiwi Taxi service operates in the area.
When it doesn’t, I will use local apps like Bolt or eCabs.

Is Uber Better Than Other Taxi Apps In Malta?
Uber is less popular and most locals and visitors tend to use Bolt.
There are a few reasons, but the main ones are that Bolt lets you book in advance and is typically quicker to pick you up.
Uber also tends to stick to the main cities like Valletta but local taxi apps like Bolt, eCabs and Ryde are more widely available.
How Can I Pay For My Malta Uber?
You can pay by card or cash when using Uber to book transport.
Whichever payment method works best for you, just make sure you select that option in the app before booking.
The Best Alternatives For Uber In Malta
If you’re seeking alternatives to Uber, several reliable options exist on the Island.
Bolt, eCabs and Ryde are the most popular options.
These are great as they operate much like Uber, offering on-demand rides through a mobile app.
They have some great perks like often working out cheaper, getting to you faster and you can book your ride in advance.
So no matter what day trips you plan to do, you will have plenty of great options!

1. Renting A Car
This is one of the quickest ways to see multiple sites in a small timeframe.
It is also my preferred way to get around!
I love how all of Malta’s attractions are easier to get to and that it can be the cheapest transport option.
For UK drivers like myself, it is a breeze as Malta also drives on the left. But if you have never driven on the left before don’t panic, the roads around the Island are easy to navigate.
My one tip for renting a car here is to be careful of the wind 🍃
When I first rented a car here small stones were hitting the car which could have done some serious damage at high speed 😳
This was during March so if you are visiting in the summer months you shouldn’t have this problem!

2. Bus
Getting around Malta and Gozo is a breeze with the Malta bus service, offering both convenience and affordability!
Unlike some other bus services, Malta’s public transport system stands out for its extensive coverage, reaching nearly every corner of the islands.
With fares as low as €2 per ticket, it’s a pocket-friendly option, especially when travelling as a group.
Simply purchase your tickets directly from the bus driver.
From my last trip, I do recommend having coins handy, as change for larger notes may not always be available.
3. Private Boat or Yacht
I am a huge advocate for the whole Treat Yo’self vibe on any trip 💁♀️
And trust me, this is THE way to do it!
For a more luxurious or customizable travel experience, chartering a private boat or yacht is an epic option.
This allows for way more flexibility in terms of departure times, routes and what you see and do.
Having a local crew and guide who knows these waters and their hidden spots will take your trip to the next level!
You will also be happy to know that the waters are shark free making it the perfect destination to test out your snorkelling skills 😍
Is Uber In Malta? Final Thoughts
This Island has so many perks, including its transport!
Getting around Malta is so easy, especially thanks to their many taxi and ride-sharing apps.
And as I have mentioned, Uber is one of them!
It’s a great way to explore sites without the hassle of waiting for a bus or stressing about parking.
However, if you want my 50 cents, Uber is probably the last option I would use because the buses and taxis are so easy to use and are cheaper.
No matter how you decide to get around, make sure you stop somewhere and grab Pastizzi for the ride!
