Should You Rent A Car In Corfu? Quick Guide

I have rented a car in Corfu and I think it is worth it every single time!
You can do some epic road trips throughout Greece and Corfu has some great ones. My family visit Corfu 1-2 times a year and they always rent a car, even if it’s just for the day. It makes seeing lots of places in one day easy and the air-con is a real-life saver! 😍
There are so also many epic sites and beaches that unfortunately you will struggle to reach without a car. So having a rental will be super handy for exploring places that may not be easily accessible by public transport.
I am also a big lover of saving money so you can say goodbye to expensive airport transfers. Not having to rely on anyone else to get you from A to B is always amazing, especially in the hot summer months.
One of my favourite things about renting a car in Greece, especially Corfu, is that you have great options that do not cost you a fortune.
🤩 For the best rates and car options, I highly recommend using Discover Cars.
I always use them wherever I’m renting a car in Greece because they have so many benefits. One thing I love is that they check all car options from international companies to tiny local ones. So you get the best price every time!
🏆Corfu Explore Car Hire– is the Overall Best Option with amazing reviews and 24-hour airport pick-up availability!
How Much Does A Car Rental In Corfu Cost?
Prices will vary depending on when you visit, vehicle type and how long you have the car.
I rented a car for one day in Corfu and it cost me around €40. I have also rented a car for a week and the daily cost on average worked out around the same. This has also been the average cost on the other Greek Islands I have visited too!
💡 Discover Cars is a great way to compare prices and vehicle options all over Corfu before your trip!
Is It Safe To Rent A Car In Corfu?
Yes, it is perfectly safe to rent a car in Corfu!
As I have already mentioned, I have rented a car and my parents do it here at least twice a year.
But if this is your first time renting a car in Greece or even ever, here are some general tips to ensure a safe car rental experience:
1. Research and Choose Reputable Rental Companies:
Stick to well-known and reputable car rental companies. Read reviews and testimonials from other travellers to get an idea of the company’s reliability and customer service.
👆This is exactly why I love Discover Cars. They provide honest and up-to-date reviews so you know what to expect.
2. Check Insurance Coverage:
Before signing any rental agreements, carefully review the insurance coverage offered by the rental company. It’s crucial to understand the terms and conditions, including any deductibles or exclusions.
Some people prefer to get insurance from a different company because it provides better cover than what the hire company is offering.
3. Inspect the Vehicle:
🚨This is SUPER important!
Thoroughly inspect the rental car for any pre-existing damage before accepting it. Take note of any scratches, dents, or other issues and make sure they are documented by the rental company.
I always film around the car before driving off just in case I have missed something at the time.
Also, check if your sat-nav works (if your car comes with it). It’s a good idea to get an E-Sim in case you get lost so you can instantly access Google Maps!
4. Follow Local Traffic Laws:
Familiarize yourself with the local traffic laws and regulations in Corfu. Different countries may have varying rules. Just because the Island has a relaxed vibe, doesn’t mean they are the same when it comes to driving.
Keep in mind that just because this is a hot destination, you will not get away with driving in flip-flops.
5. Secure Valuables:
Keep your valuables secure and out of sight when leaving the car unattended. Rental cars can be targets for theft, so it’s essential to take precautions.
If you ever need to leave anything important in your car I always hide it under towels and in the boot with the parcel shelf covering it.
6. Keep Important Documents Handy:
Have all necessary documents, including your driver’s license, rental agreement, and insurance information, readily available while driving.
7. Be Aware of Road Conditions:
Be aware of road conditions, especially if you plan to explore less-travelled areas. Some locations may have challenging terrain, so choose a vehicle suitable for the type of roads you’ll encounter.

Can You Get Around Corfu Without A Car?

Corfu has a well-developed public transportation system, including buses and taxis. If you want to visit really popular locations or spots that are covered by public transport, you will have no issues without a car.
📍 If visiting more remote spots on the Island is what you want, I’d recommend booking private transport for the day.
These are the best ways to get around Corfu if you don’t think hiring a car is worth it:
🚌 Green Buses– This is the most popular transport option if you do not have a car as tickets are around €3.20.

⭐️ Corfu Tour– If you want to see Corfu from a local and not drive, this is your best option!
You will always be happy to know that Uber has finally hit Corfu. However, they are pretty much just normal taxis so the app just makes things easier to book.
