I didn’t quite believe the phrase ‘Diamonds are made under pressure’ until We visited Marrakech.
I loved wandering the Medina, exploring that hidden magic you read about as a child.
However, in the middle of the colours and chaos, I was searching for Calm. This is where we found the Diamond, Marrakech Henna art Cafe.
Marrakech Henna Art Cafe is just a 3 minute walk from Djemaa el Fna. Their goal is to offer guests food, drink and henna in a safe and comfortable atmosphere.
They have achieved this by creating a cross-cultural Cafe. Entering the cafe was like entering another world. As soon as I set foot inside, I felt a Wave of calm wash over me.
It was unreal how in a matter of seconds, we had left the busy streets of the Medina to a totally relaxing atmosphere.
It was like stepping into another world.
As amazing as it is to explore the working Medina, sometimes you need a break.
We have heard of many people feeling overwhelmed by the hustle, trust me, you are not alone.
This is why we cannot recommend the tranquil Marrakech Henna Art Cafe enough!
A Glimpse into Marrakech Henna Art Cafe
The Marrakech Henna art Cafe is owned by Lori Gordon and Rachid. I met American born Lori briefly when we were visiting and couldn’t have asked for a better host!
Her love of art, Marrakech and the things they were doing at the Marrakech Henna art Cafe always stayed with me (Also her love of Wales helped!).
Co-Owner Rachid is a Moroccan of Amazigh heritage which shows how this fusion works together so beautifully.
We wanted to share the story of the Marrakech Henna art cafe for so long. Our stay was only a few hours, but the cafe and their mission stayed with us.
We truly feel that this is a must visit location in the Red City.
Also, everyone needs to see the wonderful things that are being done here! One feature that makes this place so unique is the Non- Profit that the Cafe set up.
The Cafe is also home to a non-profit we started, El Fenn Maroc, whose mission is to support visual artists and the traditional art of henna in Morocco

Why is this spot a must visit?
Marrakech has some wonderful spots to visit and lots of options for you to grab a bite to eat.
And there are even more bars and cafes for you to escape the sun.
With so many options you may be thinking “Why should this place be added to my must-visit list when visiting Marrakech ?”
Well here are just a few reasons why:
1.Firstly, the Marrakech Henna art Cafe employs several Naqashas (Henna artists) who use only 100% natural henna.
2. Only Moroccan nationals are employed here. The cafe also donates time and money to helping organizations in Morocco. This only echoes further the Marrakech Henna art Cafe’s commitment to being good neighbours and fellow residents.
3. The Marrakech Henna art Cafe’s Menu includes both traditional Moroccan and fusion dishes, check out the menu below! (Trying the burrito is a must, it was just incredible)
4. There are gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options available here, so always something for everyone!
5. Fine art is created at the Cafe and exhibitions are held here by other Moroccan artists.
6. The Marrakech Henna art Cafe is one of the most relaxing spots we found in Marrakech. It really is the perfect place to get out of the heat and recharge your batteries.
7. It is also home to their Charity so a perfect chance to support and get an insight into Morocco.

We were only at the Marrakech Henna art Cafe for a few hours but the story has stuck with me for years. I have spoken to Lori a few times since our trip and every time I get a deeper insight into why this place is so special.
