Jordan will always be one of our favorite destinations because it offers something for everyone. Wadi rum and Petra offer adventure any explorer would dream of.

These locations are probably the main reason people visit Jordan, who doesn’t want to feel like Indiana Jones? But for those who want to kick back and relax, Jordan offers the Dead Sea and Aqaba. And even for the urban explorer the capital Amman is a must see. There are so many picture opportunities here so let’s get your outfits on point!

We decided to put together a guide based on our experience for What to Wear In Jordan. This guide includes the best packing checklist for everything you will need to in Jordan for the most popular attractions ( For Both Men & Women).

When we knew we were going to Jordan we started looking at things to do we. After a little research we could easily see how diverse the landscape across the country is and with it being within the Middle East one question kept cropping up, What do we need to wear?

Combined we had already visited Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia so knew what to expect from a Muslim country.

However Jordan is seen as a bit more relaxed so we were still unsure. This resulted in us packing everything we could possibly need. This was a mistake as our luggage was so heavy and hard to carry across the Country.

So If you want to avoid carrying a Heavy Suitcase and still be prepared for everything Jordan has to throw at you, make sure you have a look at our ultimate packing Check list for What to wear in Jordan!

What are the must pack items for Jordan?

A headscarf and sunglasses without a doubt. We rented a car and drove through Jordan and within minutes we realized it was impossible without sunglasses, so make sure these are the first thing you pack!

Even though you don’t have to wear a headscarf here we found having one so helpful. Not only are you showing respect for the local cultures and customs but locals tend to trust you a bit more.

Also we have never found something so beneficial to wear in the hot temperatures! You can buy headscarves there fairly cheaply but if you want to be more prepared than us, you can find lots of options on Amazon.

We love the ones we are wearing in the Picture Below at Petra because they were so light and perfect for the Climate in Jordan!

What to wear in Jordan For Guys Visiting Petra and Wadi Rum

Petra and Wadi Rum are both adventure days where you are in the sun all day. For this we recommend long trousers and shirts. We visited in May and it was 40 degrees so it gets seriously hot! We also strongly recommend a head scarf as they are perfect for keeping the heat away from your head in the day and useful for keeping you warm in those cooler desert nights.

For a Day at the Dead Sea

Our top tip for visiting the Dead Sea is to wear swimwear you don’t mind getting a bit damaged.

Luckily Ours came back home in pretty good condition! But because of the salt content of the water and the mud masks you can get at some locations, your beloved bathers may not come back home in the best condition.

What Footwear Should I pack for Jordan?

If you are struggling to think what to wear in Jordan in terms of footwear, trainers are a no brainier.

However we found that all sites are doable wearing sandals and flip flops, but some are more challenging than others (yup we climbed to see the view of Petra treasury in just flip flops).

There is a lot of Climbing visiting Wadi Rum and in Certain places in Petra so make sure you wear shoes that are good for this.

What to wear In Jordan as a Female?

What to wear in Jordan isn’t too challenging but as a woman there is more attention on dressing appropriately. So by just making sure you are covered up as it will respect the local culture and help you to survive the heat!

What to Wear in Jordan for Ladies Visiting Petra and Wadi Rum

As much as we all want that perfect Insta photo we will warn you now, wearing a sun dress in these locations is hard work.

Lowri wore dresses to both and learned quickly from this.

In the sun you want to be as covered as possible, especially if you are out in the sun all day (which is most likely at these sites). Also these environments do involve climbing and walking through uneven paths ,so trousers will be your friend here. So we recommend again long trousers and a top or T-shirt that covers your chest and shoulders.

However, If you do want to wear a dress in Jordan, it’s a lot easier to do this at Petra than Wadi Rum.

Lowri bought all her Dresses from Apricot for this trip as they are perfect in the heat, look good and made sure she was covered up.

Make sure you grab a headscarf or Fashion Turban for your pictures to get that Middle Eastern feel and keep the sun off your head!

You can find loads on Amazon and they are all Perfect for everything Jordan May Throw at you!

The best ones for hot climates are the headband types from Amazon as they allow you to put your hair up too (Which is a bit of a life saver when it’s super hot)

For those who are Planning to take a dip in the Dead Sea

Jordan is predominantly a Muslim Country. So with modesty in mind, we recommend wearing a one piece that doesn’t show a lot of cleavage. Also wear swimwear you don’t mind getting a bit damaged. Ours didn’t turn out too bad .But because of the salt content of the water and the mud masks you can get at some locations, your beloved bathers may not come back home in the best condition.
